Why Steve Flint Runs
I have been running for many years just to stay in shape, I now have found a much greater reason for running. I am running this race for the woman of all my dreams, her name is Candice, in additon to runnig for Candice I am running for Caitlyn, Hannah and Lauren. I am running in hopes of finding a cure so the wonderful women and the three young ladies I mentioned above will never have to fight this fight. I love them all and will be thinking of them every step.

I run for Mom
I am 21 and am running for my mom, Sally, who passed away 2 years ago from breast cancer. She was the strongest, most incredible woman there ever was and I want to put an end to this merciless disease. Mom was from Florida and grew up on the beach. She and I shared a love for the sand and waves. I look forward to running on the beaches of Jacksonville, as it was such a special place for the both of us.

This year it's personal
In my work as a general surgeon, I help to care for far too many women (and men) with breast cancer. Last year I was proud to be a part of the inaugural 26.2 with Donna (I ran the half marathon), and ran in honor and in memory of my patients who battle this disease. When I returned home after the race last year, I found a number of phone messages from my cousin Jane—turns out that while I was running the race to fight breast cancer, Jane was receiving her breast cancer diagnosis. Fortunately it was found in an early stage, and Jane is now finished with her treatment and officially a survivor! So this year, I’m running the full marathon in honor of Jane—and I’m DELIGHTED that Jane will be there too, along with her sister Nancy and our cousin Beth, walking the half marathon. Together we’ll celebrate, honor and remember everyone touched by breast cancer, and look forward to the day when the disease will be gone forever.

I run for ALL!
I am running for my sister, for me, for all the women with the fear of breast cancer. I am 34 years old and had an odd spot on my breast. With breast cancer running in my family (my great grandmother, my grandmother, my mom) I went to the doctor to get it checked out. He does not think it is anything to worry about but sent me for a mammogram and stated that I have fibrocystic breasts. Thankfully my mammogram came out normal.....I still have the spot and the doctor did say that if it does not go away in a month or two to come back and he will do a biopsy of the area. I ran the half marathon last year but will be running the full marathon this year for ALL the women that have had breast cancer, may have it now, or have the fear of getting breast cancer. I run because I don’t want to live in fear, I want to LIVE! Enjoy each day to its fullest!

I am running for my friend Stephanie
I am running fmy first half marathon (or race of any kind) for my best friend Stephanie, who is a mother of 3 gorgeous young children and battling stage IV breast cancer. Her femur remians broken because of the bone cancer and she has been on a walker for over 5 months. I can certainly run 13 miles if she can do this, and I am training every day to make sure I can. Stephanie has a daughter and even if research can not help her at this stage of cancer, I hope that if her little girl is at risk in the future that breast cancer will be an easily treatable condition.

Why I Run, Jennifer Kalbfell
I run because 3 years ago I promised my 42 year old sister that when she recovered from ovarian cancer that TOGETHER we would run a marathon. Sadly I will not run this marathon with my sister. I will run instead in her memory, she died several days after I made this promise. I will keep the promise I made and do my best to honor her. I will run with MOJO.

My Mom, Ileana Desendi
Seventeen years ago and just two months before I married my husband my mother lost her battle to breast t bone cancer. I am walking the half marathon in her honor. My mother was an amazing women with a gigantic heart and love for life. Noone was a stranger to her. Even in her hard times she would says look fo the positive it’s there. My mother taught us that life is a gift that should be lived to it’s fullest and happiness should be shared with those around us. So I am walking the marathon for the first time this upcoming year for you mom. A day doesn’t go by that I don’t think about you. I love you and thank you for being the amazing woman you were. I only hope that one day my children feel as lucky to have a mom like me as I do to have had you as my hero and role model.
Kisses and Hugs, Ileana
