Countdown to February 13, 2011:

THE PLAYERS 5K attracts 1,000 runners

The Inaugural THE PLAYERS 5K was held on Saturday, November 28 and 1,000 runners and walkers enjoyed the 3.1 miles on the back nine of the Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.  Donna Deegan and Edith Perez, Director of the Breast Clinic at Mayo Clinic, ran along with PGA Tour golfer Jim Furyk.  As with all 26.2 with Donna related events, net proceeds from the race will go to breast cancer research at Mayo and to the Donna Foundation to meet the needs of women with breast cancer.

“The more we can do to help bring awareness to these causes, the more we can do to make a difference,” Furyk said. “If you can draw people from golf and running, you can do a lot to help.”

26.2 with Donna is working with THE PLAYERS to plan another 5K event on Mother’s Day 2010, the day of THE PLAYERS Championship final round.

“It’s a good way to get people of all abilities involved,” Deegan said. “We had so many people who said they wanted to be involved, but they said, ‘we can’t do the marathon or half marathon.’”
