Countdown to February 12, 2012:

Race Weekend Events

Jacksonville has already developed a pink hue in anticipation of the 2nd annual 26.2 with Donna, the National Marathon to Fight Breast Cancer, and you can be a part of it starting Friday the 13th (a lucky day if you’re wearing pink).

Health and Fitness Expo – Friday and Saturday
Things kick off at 11 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront Hotel with the Grand Opening of our Health & Fitness Expo. On-sight registration will be available for both the marathon and half-marathon, and all registered runners will be able to pick up their packets, verify their ChampionChips, and take advantage of great deals from the many vendors who are coming to support our event. Friday’s Expo hours will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.  For a map of vendors and to learn more about the Speaker’s Bureau presented by Novartis, read this month’s Health & Fitness Expo article.

2008 Honda Fit Drawing – Saturday
Don’t miss the Valentine’s Day drawing for at 2008 Honda Fit! This will be the highlight of our Health & Fitness Expo on Saturday, February 14th. Saturday’s Expo hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., so you there’s plenty of time to pick up your packet, shop for great merchandise, and cross your fingers for the Valentine’s Day present of your dreams!

CME presented by the Mayo Clinic – Saturday
26.2 with Donna is more than just a race – it’s a mission to end breast cancer in our lifetime. Driving us toward that goal is the Mayo Clinic. We are pleased to offer medical professionals the opportunity to earn CME right here at our Expo by attending the San Antonio Breast Cancer Review: Management of Adjuvant and Metastatic Breast Cancer presented by Mayo Clinic. This course is held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, February 14th, in the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront Hotel. Registration information is available at http://www.mayo.edu/cme/breastcancer/index.html

Galloway Pep Rally - Saturday
Jeff Galloway has been one of the driving forces in creating, promoting, and supporting 26.2 with Donna. If you are a part of a Galloway Training Program anywhere around the world, or if you have read Jeff’s books or articles in Runner’s World, you will want to head over the The Jacksonville Landing from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. for a good old-fashioned pep rally and pre-game talk from the man himself!

Pasta Dinner – Saturday
As you finish your last minute shopping at the Health & Fitness Expo at The Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront Hotel, walk on over the River Terrace for the Pasta Dinner presented by Nektar Therapeuics from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, and kids under 12 eat free.

Marathon and Half-Marathon – Sunday
Sunday’s festivities start at 4 a.m. with the opening of the Runners’ Village at Mayo Clinic. Runners will be bussed in to the Village from remote parking areas and hotels around Jacksonville. The Official Marathon and Half-Marathon Start is at 7:30 a.m. Awards Presentation is at noon, and the Post-Race Celebration goes on until 2:30 p.m.
More information about all of the weekend events and more is available at http://www.BreastCancerMarathon.com.

The Donna Foundation

"Having complete strangers thank me for running for them/their mothers/their friends, seeing people struggle through an exceptionally hot day but pushing on for their loved ones, and spectators adding their own aid stations …, and kind words of encouragement was enough to touch my heart in a way I didn’t expect."
