Countdown to February 12, 2012:

December 2009 Letter from Donna

Donna DeeganGreetings and Happy Holidays Everybody!

I hope you are getting excited and making plans to join us in Jacksonville Beach!

First of all, thanks to all of you who wrote in with your own experiences in response to the mammogram study.  As you’ll read in this newsletter, our Mayo docs completely disagree with those recommendations and so do most doctors around the country.  It was good to see congress follow suit.  Twenty-five percent of women are diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 50.  That’s a lot of women.  We need to continue to stand together to make sure we get the screenings we need until we FINISH this thing!

I know Christmas is a busy time, but it’s also a great time to think about others.  We have some wonderful gift ideas for you in our marathon store.  A race registration makes a perfect holiday gift. Knowing that 100 percent of the proceeds from our race go to the cause, it’s a great way to give back and let someone else experience our beautiful course and all that comes with it.  If you haven’t yet purchased your copy of Through Rose Colored Glasses, remember those proceeds go to our cause as well, so it’s another thoughtful way to help us FINISH BREAST CANCER and learn about how 26.2 With Donna began.  You can check out all these gift ideas at our store.

Many of you have come up with creative ways to fund raise this year.  As you know, fund raising is not mandatory for our race, but a lot of you do it, and we are very grateful for that.  If you were with us last year, you may have noticed the appearance of Pink Spidey.  Well, he’s back and he’s fundraising.  Check him out on facebook!  I’d love to give you a shout out for unique fundraising ideas as well.  Send us pics of what you’re doing and we’ll post ‘em.

Also in this newsletter, spectator information that will be helpful for your families as they cheer you on during the race, info on our new relay option and the Danny Brown High School Challenge that comes with it, great holiday training tips from Jeff Galloway and much more.

Enjoy the holidays and I look forward to see you in two months!

"I don’t know who to or even how to express my gratitude but I am forever grateful for everything including the full 26.2 miles of enthusiastic people cheering me on and thanking me for running for their mother, grandmother and sisters. I felt like a rock star and it made a memory that will last forever! Thank you."
